Netherlands is now alone and undefeated at the very top of Group A in the European Baseball Championship, after defeating, by 6 runs to 3, the German team during the 1st match of the 5th day. The Dutch team started their attack with 4 scores as all their official batters entered the box. The match, without too much effort, was already sentenced and so was the leadership and the mathematic qualification for the final rounds. In the following 7 turns at bat, Netherlands chose to play conservative in order to maintain their advantage and more than one Dutch player went for home run and this resulted in a fast termination. The Germans’ first score arrived by the 2nd inning, with a hit of double base, that connected its 1st base Michael Franke. When the scoreboard read 6 to 1, and taking advantage of the facilities offered by pitcher Dorotheus Draijer, who had replaced the starting pitch, Leon Boyd, Germany tried to get closer and a double hit, that reached the fence, allowed to score 2 runs and switch the scoreboard to 3 to 6, a result that didn’t vary during the following turns. |
