GERMANY 6 – CZECH REPUBLIC 1

PREVIA

Germany closed its participation in the 1st phase of the European Baseball Championship, defeating the Czech Republic by 6 runs to 1 in a match that was easy for the Germans that closed the 1st inning with 3-0.

This victory qualified the team for the 2nd position in Group A, while the Czech Republic put up a fight for the possibility to qualify for the final round if Sweden isn’t able to knock off the Austrians, a possibility that is a quite remote.

Until the 4th inning the match didn’t have any new scores. The 4-0 and the 5-0 happened, first, with Klaus Hopfensperger and the second Andreas Janzen who finished off Jendrick Speer with a sacrifice bunt.

The Czech Republic tried to reduce the difference scoring its only run in the 8th inning. Petr Cech took advantage off an error made by the German 1st base and with one hit by Martin Vasely, reached the home bag (6-1).

The response from Germany didn’t take long and at the end of the inning scored his 6th run that was done by Sascha Lutz who started his progression around the diamond thank to a base on balls allowed for by the Czech pitcher.
