Though the Swedish
resitance, logic won and Great Britain maintains its leadership
Sweden
almost offered a big surprise in the match against Great Britain on
the first day of the European Baseball Championship’s Final Round,
though logic appeared and the English team scored 10 to 7.
However, the victory of Great Britain had to wait until the last
inning to advance on the score board and turn around a match that,
until the 6th inning, favored the Swedish team (6-7).
The Swedish pitchers were unable to maintain the advantage, which
started already in the first inning -1-4-, and stayed in a tie of 7
on the score board until the 9th inning.
The Swedes, that played as home team, weren’t able to score by the
end of the match and the victory went to Great Britain. This victory
makes the English team leader of the championship together with the
Dutch one.
The
most important among the winners, together with English pitcher
Stephen
Spragg, were his colleagues Ian Young, with 4 hits and 3 RBI and
catcher Mike Nickeas with 3 hits that allowed for 2 runs. The losing
pitcher was Johan L. Tisell. |
