02/09/07 SPAIN LOOSES ITS FIFTH MATCH AGAINTS UCLA

The last test before Eurobaseball will be on Tuesday, in Viladecans, against the powerful Netherlands

Spain lost 6 to 2 against UCLA, in the fifth and last of the matches in the preparation series, with the American team, before Eurobaseball 2007 that will take place in Barcelona, Viladecans and Sant Boi (Spain) from the 7th through the 16th of September.
Key to the match and, therefore, to the Spanish defeat, was when, in the seventh inning Manuel  Olivera lost two bases due to balls because the bases were occupied and that helped the university team score 2 and getting in front of the scoreboard with 1-4.
The several tries by the Spanish team’s coach, Jake Molina -who replaced Olivera with Miguel Rizo and, two innings later, with Fernando Gutiérrez-  only achieved to reduce the difference for a moment: in the eighth inning (2-5). In the last inning UCLA scored again and thus established the final result.
It’s important to highlight the home run by UCLA’s receptor, Matt Schwenke, in the second inning, that allowed the first score of the Californian team and victory of the match.
Spain will now finish the preparing matches on Tuesday, in Viladecans, at 18:00 against Netherlands, one of the favorites to conquer Europe.

1/09/07 Today Spain Couldn't  beat UCLA

The Spanish baseball team lost 3-2 to the UCLA students in the fourth match, in a series of five, against the Californian team, as a preparation before Eurobaseball 2007, that will take place on the diamonds in the Spanish fields located in Barcelona, Viladecans and  Sant Boi.
An error made by Spanish pitcher
Remigio Leal, in the eighth inning, when the scoreboard showed an equalizer of 2 runs, which made the umpire consider that he’d tried to cheat UCLA’s batter, favoured a run that gave the final victory to the Americans.
Today, on the contrary of the three former matches, the defences imposed themselves on the attackers. Outstanding was the connected home run by Tim Stewart that became the first score by UCLA who, until that moment, lost 0-2, with Spanish runs in the fifth and the seventh innings.
Spain finally showed better numbers than its rivals with 9 good hits and only 1 error while the team from California connected 6 hits and made 3 errors.
The Spanish manager J. Molina selected, for the start on the Catalan mount, the Catalan player Xavi Civit who pitched seven entries and was then replaced by
Remigio Leal.
Tomorrow, Sunday, the fifth and last match against UCLA will be played in Montjuic (Barcelona, Spain) and on Tuesday the preparing matches will end, in Viladecans, with an interesting Spain-Netherlands.
